About this product
This telescope and extra included accessories will help inspire a lifelong appreciation of astronomy and science. The Observer II 60mm Refractor is a full-fledged refractor telescope complete with everything you need to start enjoying the night sky right out of the box. This telescope kit will make a great gift for any child interested in exploring starry skies, as it will provide astronomical adventures night after night!
The Orion Observer II 60mm Refractor Telescope offers higher quality and more reliable performance than any telescope you'd find in a department store. Featuring an aluminum telescope optical tube and all-glass optics, including an antireflection-coated 60mm-aperture (2.36") achromatic glass objective lens, the Observer II 60mm yields crisp, bright images of the night sky. The altazimuth mount provides smooth motion in both altitude (up/down) and azimuth (left/right) axes of motion. The whole family will enjoy the sharp celestial sights provided by the Orion Observer II 60mm Altazimuth Refractor Telescope. For starters, Saturn and its beautiful rings, Jupiter and its dancing moons, and the changing phases of Venus all display nicely in the telescope. Close-up views of the Moon's rocky, cratered surface will give you and your family a new way of looking at our planet's nearest neighbor in the night sky.
Two telescope eyepieces are included. Use the included 25mm Kellner eyepiece for wide, 28-power views. When you want more magnifying power, replace the 25mm eyepiece with the included 10mm Kellner eyepiece for stronger, 70-power views. A 90° mirror diagonal is included for comfortable nighttime viewing through the telescope. An included red-dot sight makes it easy to aim the Observer II 60mm telescope and features two brightness settings. Along with the complete refractor telescope, the extra accessories included in this value-packed kit have been selected to enhance your stargazing experiences.
Shorty 2x Barlow Use the included Orion Shorty 2x Barlow Lens to double the magnifying power of included eyepieces. A 2-power (2x) Barlow lens is an extremely versatile telescope accessory that doubles the magnification of any eyepiece installed. Using the included Shorty 2x Barlow with the 10mm eyepiece in the Observer II 60mm Refractor bumps its viewing power from 70x to 140x, and boosts the 25mm eyepiece's magnification from 28x to 56x when used with the telescope. Plus, you can use the compact Shorty 2x Barlow with any other 1.25" eyepieces you already have, or any you purchase in the future.
MoonMap 260 The Orion MoonMap 260 makes it easy to locate and learn about interesting features on the Moon. With locations and names of over 260 features on the Moon such as craters, mountains, valleys, "seas" and more, the included Orion MoonMap 260 is a great tool for beginning astronomers. This detailed map will even show you where various spacecraft have landed on the Moon's surface! The whole family will enjoy looking at the Moon with the Observer II 60mm Altazimuth Refractor, then discovering the names of the craters and other features you've seen in the telescope.
Star Target The Orion Star Target planisphere is a useful star chart wheel for any day of the year. This circular star map lets you dial-in the month and day you're observing the sky, so you can see exactly which constellations and stars will be visible if skies are clear. Using the Orion Star Target is a great way for starters to plan their first stargazing sessions with the Observer II 60mm Altazimuth Refractor, since you'll know just where to point the telescope!
OTOG The Orion Telescope Observer's Guide book will introduce you to the wonders of the night sky. This book will help you explore amazing celestial objects including planetary, emission and reflection nebulas; double and multiple stars; open and globular star clusters, the Andromeda Galaxy, and more. With a full page of information dedicated to each interesting object, author Richard J. Bartlett leads you on a detailed tour of the night sky as he describes over 60 fascinating astronomical objects that can easily be seen with a small telescope.
RedBeam Mini Use the RedBeam Mini LED flashlight to see in the dark without disrupting dark-adapted vision. You don't need a big flashlight to read star maps or see inside your accessory case at night. The included 2.5"-long Orion RedBeam Mini Flashlight does the job perfectly, emitting night-vision friendly red LED light. Red light won't disrupt your eyes' dark-adapted vision, so this flashlight lets you check charts and accessories while keeping your eyes primed for viewing celestial gems through the Observer II 60mm Refractor Telescope. Includes batteries and a handy key-ring.
A classic refractor telescope with precision glass optics and great portability, the Orion Observer II 60mm is a complete backyard telescope package that includes the refractor optical tube, a host of accessories, and an adjustable aluminum tripod. The Observer II 60mm Altazimuth Refractor Telescope weighs just 4.3 lbs. fully assembled, making it very easy for anyone in the family to transport.
