The ET-73 Canon Lens Hood blocks indirect light from entering the lens and prevents aperture spots and flare. The latter will reduce contrast and cause incorrect light measuring. A lens hood prevents unwanted reflections and filters that can impact the colour saturation of your photos. It's recommended to always use a lens hood, even when inside. Not just sunlight, but all light can cause unwanted aberrations.
